The Solstice Wreath shines on!

the solstice wreath

The days are so short now, you can turn on your holiday lights at 5 p.m.! It’s Solstice time, the year is long in the tooth, the new year is coming. Hooray. Here is our beautiful and big Solstice wreath — made from our own vine! What a warm reminder that the days will grow longer soon. Here’s to next year’s grapes! Sol Invictus! Happy holidays everyone.

Yes. Around these parts you can turn your holiday lights on by about 4:15, but that requires having put up holiday lights. I never seem to get around to doing that before the holidays are over and the days are long again.

Nice wreath, I also meant to say.

It’s beautiful. I like the end of year festivities, mostly because I like it when the days begin to lengthen again.

Thanks for your comments on the wreath, guys. I really enjoyed making it and it makes such a nice light that I hate to take it down every year — it is there ’til Jan.

And Janice, we like to celebrate the solstice and the turning of the year. To say, hey we’re still alive here in the dark; let’s have a glass of champagne. Especially good: we can just celebrate the self-renewing nature of life, the universe, and everything, without wrapping it up in the worship of a supernatural being. Happy New Year!

Coming soon, our solstice tree and a .pdf for some cool decorations.
